Robyn started taking her first Tap + Ballet class at the age of 4. Dance became her passion attending dance classes every day after school and on the weekends. She studied Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Hip-Hop and Gymnastics. From the age of 8 to 14, she danced competitively with The Dance Spot in Southern California, participating in competitions throughout the region and in Las Vegas. In high school, she began choreographing through a school program called Dance Production. She was a Varsity Song Cheerleader focusing on dance and stunts. She was also cast in several high school musicals as an ensemble dancer. While pursuing her undergraduate degree at New York University, her collegiate dance team won the NCAA National Championship her second year on the team. However, due to an injury she needed to take a pause on competitive dancing. After her recovery, she began exploring various styles of dancing and movement. She studied Kathak (a form of Indian classical dance which originated in the temples using intricate footwork and theatrical hand gestures to tell a story) for a month privately with Mata Prasad in Varanasi, India. While in India she also deepened her Yoga practice in a month-long private apprenticeship. While living in Hawaii, pregnant with her son, Robyn studied, danced, and performed with Hālau Hula O Kekaikuihala under the wise guidance of Kumu Nettie Armitage-Lapilio. Robyn’s injury propelled her into a lifelong inquiry about movement that does not strain the body and she pursued a career in bodywork (specializing in natural postural realignment as a Rolfer), as well as became a certified somatic practitioner. She has studied internal-based movement (as opposed to performative movement) such as: Continuum with Emilie Conrad, Authentic Movement, Conscious Embodiment Practices, and Post Modern Dance with Anna Halprin. She became fascinated by the relational flow of engaged movement and spent some time studying different Martial Arts such as Capoeira, Aikido and Tai Chi. As a mother, Robyn has continued her Yoga and Qigong practices and has regular dance parties with her children.
We'd love to hear from you.
